Village of Ephraim announces the completion of the North Ephraim Pedestrian Path.
Village of Ephraim businesses, visitors, and residents in North Ephraim are now connected by the newly completed North Ephraim Pedestrian Path. Residents and business owners brought safety concerns to the Village, noting that visitors and residents desired to explore the Commercial North area. The commercial growth zone had created safety issues stemming from the lack of pedestrian trail infrastructure or trail lighting within the project limits. Due to the lack of infrastructure in this area, there was a mixing of incompatible modes of transportation where children, strollers, bicyclists, and pedestrians were forced to negotiate traffic on the shoulder of the state highway.
The Village sought to prioritize pedestrian safety by investing in active mobility infrastructure in North Ephraim, including the construction of a 3,000-square-foot asphalt path with solar lighting. The path provides an immediate improvement in safety and accessibility in a very busy, growing commercial corridor. The path provides residents and visitors the option to park and safely walk and explore the Commercial North Ephraim area. Further, the path may provide connectivity to future projects to create an interconnected trail system as part of a greater trail network throughout the county.
The Village extends its appreciation to all private landowners along the path who worked with the Village to grant easements allowing construction of the path on private land. Additionally, the Village wishes to acknowledge the contractors who partnered with the Village to bring the project to reality: AECOM for engineering and project management, as well as Relyco for building out the project.
Thank you to Destination Door County for supporting the North Ephraim Pedestrian Path through the Community Investment Fund. The project received a $50,000 grant from the Community Investment Fund for project engineering.
